The Russell County School District has released the following statement about one of their former teachers:
"Recently, the Russell County School District received allegations that were being investigated regarding inappropriate communications between a teacher and student. Upon being presented documentation, that teacher was immediately suspended and resigned a few days later. Any similar information or evidence we receive in the future will be dealt with immediately. Russell County School District is about educating our students and the safety and well-being of our students is our top priority."
The name of the teacher has not been released at this time.
Adair Co. School Supt. Alan Reed sent out a special notification to all employees of Adair County Schools today (Thursday) that reads:
“ In the past few days and weeks there have been numerous news accounts in regional and statewide media related to inappropriate contact between employees and students in public schools across the state. As superintendent, I must remind you of the risks involved in communicating with students in any manner other than through district servers. Communicating with students via social media can be a risky proposition. There is an abundance of rumors circulating throughout our community regarding investigations of employees in nearby districts and subsequent termination/resignation due inappropriate and unethical access of web-based material and possible inappropriate contact. I feel the need to remind all employees of Adair County Schools that each of you is held to the very highest levels of professionalism and ethical conduct. Our Adair County Board of Education and our community at large expects nothing less than a thorough investigation of any allegations. I can assure you of swift disciplinary action if called for, and full disclosure to news media in the event of documented inappropriate contact with students on the part of any employee in our district.”
