The Blue Raiders (9-2-0, 5-0-0 Mid-South Conference) fell behind in the first half to the Running Eagles (7-7-0, 3-2-0 MSC), but a pair of late first-half goals from Tyler Collishaw and an early second-half strike from Mutaya Mwape helped LWC prevail.
Life pulled ahead in the 28th minute after a goal on a free kick from Wessley Soronellas. A foul gave the Running Eagles the free kick from a few yards outside the center of the 18-yard box. While the Blue Raider defense was organizing their wall, Soronellas quickly took the free kick and fired into an open net to put the home side up 1-0.
Lindsey Wilson needed exactly seven minutes to find an equalizer in the 35th minute.
After David Ibrahimkadic lofted a ball over the Life back line, Moustapha Fofana latched onto the end of it, cutting it back to a waiting Collishaw in the center. Collishaw then fired a right-footed shot to the lower left to beat the diving Life goalkeeper for the score. It was Collishaw’s 10th goal of the season in just five games as he has scored in every single appearance this year for the Blue Raiders.
Just five minutes later, Collishaw put the Blue Raiders ahead after converting from the penalty spot in the 40th minute. Collishaw himself earned the penalty after being brought down in the box. He then slammed home the ensuing spot kick home after sending the keeper the wrong way, bringing his season total to a team-best 11 goals.
By the halftime horn, Lindsey Wilson had outshot Life 9-4 and had a 3-1 corner kick advantage.
Mwape needed just 45 seconds in the second half to push things to a 3-1 lead for the Blue Raiders.
With his back to the goal and a defender on him, Franck Bikoya lifted a ball to the middle where it fell to Mwape at the penalty spot. Mwape faked a shot that got both the defender and goalkeeper to go to the ground in an attempt to block it, allowing Mwape to calmly finish into the lower left of the net for the score. With the strike, he rejoined Collishaw for the team lead in goals with 11 this year.
The Blue Raider defense held strong from there as Life managed just five shots in the second half and LWC did not concede a corner kick to the Running Eagles.
Lindsey Wilson finished the match outshooting Life 16-9, including a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal.
The Blue Raiders return to action on Friday night as the host Cumberlands (Ky.) in the regular season home finale, where Senior Night will also be celebrated at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
