“There are many faculty on this campus that model being a servant leader that it never crossed my mind that I, especially as a new faculty, would be considered for the Servant Leadership Award. I was surprised, humbled and honored,” Trejo Williams said.
The Servant Leadership Award is given by Campbellsville University to a faculty member and to a staff member annually during Honors and Awards Day.
The award recipient is someone who consistently demonstrates a servant’s heart of leadership on campus and the greater community. “‘Love thy neighbor as thy self’ is how I live my life and how I serve others. I have been a recipient of love and giving by many people that have crossed my path. I would not be on this same journey if it were not for the people that modeled being a servant leader. Their actions might have been small in their eyes, but were beyond generous and unforgettable to me,” Trejo Williams said.
“I started attending and volunteering at the Newman Center, a student Catholic center at Angelo State University (1998), where I met Sister Marie Malachy Griffin, O.P. She changed my life. She showed me that giving can come in many forms. Even if I couldn’t give in treasure, I could give in time and talent. I am blessed that I am in the position to give in all three now. I am simply paying forward what was given to me in my past,” Trejo Williams said.
Trejo Williams received a Bachelor of Arts in Photojournalism from the University of North Texas in 2004. She also earned her Master of Fine Arts from Maryland Institute College of Art in 2016.
Trejo Williams has been faculty at Campbellsville University since 2015 and serves on the Patrons of the Visual Arts Board at Campbellsville University. She is an interdisciplinary artist working in installation, photography, video and sound, and serves as a docent at the Speed Art Museum in Louisville, Ky.
Trejo Williams is married to Dr. Shawn Williams, associate professor of political science at Campbellsville University.
