A new lumber company is set to start operation in Columbia.
H&H Lumber will be a concentration yard, which means that wood will be brought in and stacked outside for air drying, and then will be put into a kiln to be dried. “We will also be planning wood for our customers; as well as other specialty jobs that may come along,” said Mike Pierce, who is the administrative manager. The company is looking to be up and running within 30-45 days; and, turning out product. “We are initially planning to hire from three to five full and part-time employees; and, as the business grows also will our need for employees,” noted Pierce. The business is owned by Randy Huff from Indiana, who worked originally as an ironworker for fifteen years. He then started a multi-state vending company; and, it became one of the largest vending companies in the state of Indiana. Pierce and his wife managed a retail store and bar that were owned by Huff. Huff became involved in the lumber business in 2007 with a large wood chipping operation and then moved on to air and kiln drying of wood; initially on a custom basis. Huff also served on his local school board in Sullivan, Indiana. “We are excited to be doing business in Columbia, “said Pierce. “It reminds us of our hometown of Sullivan, as the people we have met and done business with are very friendly and cooperative.” In conclusion, he noted, “Our hopes are to build a successful business here in Columbia, expand and hire more people, and add to the economy.” Quarter Auction will be held on Friday, December 6 at Trinity UMC Fellowship Hall at 5:30 p.m. Bidding paddles are $5. A native of Adair County will soon be appointed Kentucky Deputy Attorney General.
Kentucky Attorney General-elect Daniel Cameron announced Tuesday, November 19th, 2019, that, upon taking the oath of office, he will appoint Barry Dunn to serve as Deputy Attorney General for the state. Dunn’s parents are Bernie and Debbie Dunn of Columbia. He had previously been appointed as General Counsel of the Kentucky Public Protection Cabinet back in 2015. Dunn graduated from the University of Louisville Law School. He and his wife now reside in Oldham County where he operates a private law firm in Pewee Valley. Lindsey Wilson athletics is scheduled to host five national championship opening-round games this weekend.
Three women’s soccer teams and a trio of men’s soccer teams compete on Friday and Saturday at Walter S. Reuling Stadium with the winners advancing to the national championship final site in two weeks. The Lindsey Wilson football team hosts an NAIA Football Championship Series game for the fifth time in its short history. The winner advances to the national quarterfinals next Saturday with hosts of the quarterfinal round yet to be determined. Lindsey Wilson women’s soccer is the top seed in the Columbia, Ky., Bracket this weekend and will play at Noon CT on Saturday, against the winner of second-seeded Spring Arbor (Mich.) and third-seeded Indiana East. Spring Arbor and IU East meet at Noon CT on Friday in the first of the opening-round games. The winner of the weekend advances to play the winner of the Marion, Indiana Bracket, on Monday, Dec. 2, in Orange Beach, Alabama. The Lindsey Wilson men have the exact same draw as the Blue Raider women, serving as the top seed this weekend. The Blue Raiders -- who are slated to play at 3 p.m. CT on Saturday -- host the winner of Southeastern (Fla.) and John Brown (Ark.) in the finals of the Columbia, Ky. Bracket. Southeastern and John Brown meet at 3 p.m. CT on Friday. The team that emerges from the men’s bracket advances to play the winner of the Salem, Oregon Bracket, on Monday, Dec. 2, in Irvine, California. The Lindsey Wilson football team puts its unbeaten record on the line against Saint Francis (Ind.) at Noon CT on Saturday at Blue Raider Stadium. The Blue Raiders are ranked No. 6 in the NAIA Top-25 after winning the Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Division last Saturday at Cumberlands (Ky.). The Cougars are ranked No. 11 in the NAIA. Admission is $5 for the soccer games and $10 for the football game this weekend. According to Columbia Police Department on November 17, 2019 Escaped inmates Ellis and Hollan were both apprehended in Clinton Countyby the Clinton County Sheriff's Office.
Officers Jordan Dean and Officer Jamie Cole traveled to Clinton County to transport themed back to Adair County. After interviewing the inmates it was discovered once they had walked away from Class D they came into possession of a pickup truck in the Cane Valley community. Ellis advised the Offficers he had discovered a rifle that was in the truck and discarded the rifle by throwing in out the window of the truck. Columbia police Officers on the evening of November 17th went to Cane Valley and began a search for said firearm in an area described by Ellis. The firearm was found in a shallow creek bed just off the Cane Valley Road and recovered by the Columbia Police Officers. There are now pending charges concerning possession of a pickup truck and for the recovered firearm. The Columbia Police Department are carrying the charges. Two jail inmates are being sought after walking away from the Adair County Jail Friday afternoon, November 15th, 2019. According to jail officials, 26 year old Ryan Ellis of Nancy and 23 year old Tyler Hollan of Albany will now be facing an additional five years in jail on escape charges if, and when, they are taken back into custody. Ellis is described as a white male, 5 feet 8, 170 pounds while Hollon is described as a white male, 6 feet tall, 158 pounds. Anyone with information about the whereabouts of either of these two men is asked to contact your nearest law enforcement agency.
On 11-14-19 at 08:45 a.m. Chief Deputy Justin Cross was dispatched by Adair 911 to the 37 mile marker west of Columbia On the parkway.
Preliminary investigation shows: Jamie Boogle, 20, of Columbia was traveling East. He was operating a 2005 Scion. Boogle dropped off roadway and was unable to recover. He travelled across the median and overturned, sliding across the eastbound lanes of parkway and came to rest in a rock cut ditch. He was treated on scene by Adair County EMS and then transported to TJ Health of Columbia for additional treatment. Responding agency’s was the Adair County Sheriffs Office, Adair EMS, and Columbia - Adair County Fire Department On 11-13-19 the Adair County Sheriffs Office was dispatched to a injury collision on Flat Rock Rd 13 miles south of Columbia in the Breeding Community.
Upon arrival it was found that Hannah Higgs 18 of Columbia was operating a 2008 Ford Fusion when she lost control of her vehicle. Higgs left the roadway went up an earth embankment and overturned. The passenger of the vehicle Cheyenne Smith was treated on scene by Adair County EMS and transported to TJ Health of Columbia. Higgs was not injured. Seatbelts were in use at time of accident. Chief Deputy Justin Cross is Investigating the collision. He was was assisted by Sheriff Josh Brockman and the Breeding Fire Department. NAIA FCS Playoff First Round Pairings announced; Lindsey Wilson hosts St. Francis on Saturday11/18/2019 For the fifth time in program history, the Lindsey Wilson football team is headed to the NAIA Football Championship Series Playoffs as the national office announced the championship field of 16 and the first round pairings on Sunday.
The Blue Raiders face St. Francis (Ind.) on Saturday, Nov. 23, at Blue Raider Stadium. The meeting is the first-ever between the two programs. Lindsey Wilson (10-0, 6-0 MSC Bluegrass Division) received an automatic bid into the national postseason as champions of the MSC Bluegrass. It marks the second undefeated regular season in program history for the Blue Raiders. LWC is 3-4 overall, including a 3-1 record at home during the playoffs. St. Francis (7-2, 4-2 Mid-States Football Association) earned a bid into the championship field as an at large selection. The Cougars' two losses on the season came against then No. 6-ranked Marian (Ind.) and No. 18 Siena Heights (Mich.). St. Francis is making its 19th appearance in the national postseason, boasting a 32-16 record. Kickoff time for the 2019 NAIA FCS First Round matchup between Lindsey Wilson and St. Francis will be released tomorrow afternoon.
